This is the fourth piece in my “Seasons” series representing four seasons of womanhood.  Winter Solstice represents mature womanhood, or the “crone.”  She represents the wisdom that comes from age.  For this piece I was inspired hiking through a redwood grove.  Redwoods are amazing organisms.  They are actually a network of trees stemming from one ancestral, ancient parent who can easily be 2,000 years old and over 300 feet tall.  As you can see in this piece the roots weave together and then come upwards towards the sky as new trees.  Redwoods are also amazing because their canopy can actually “catch” rain and make their own precipitation.  They are extremely resistant to insects, fire, and rot.

In this piece you see the grandmother calling deep into the earth, sharing her wisdom, and creating new life from her roots.

This piece also uses metallic paint to give an ethereal glow, shown here:

This is the second piece in my “Seasons” series representing four seasons of womanhood.  Summer solstice, the journey to becoming a mother, with a warm summer glow through the branches.  In the original piece has bright gold metallic paint that shines (which is difficult to capture in the artwork scan).  This piece is truly luminous!  One of my favorites.

Here you can almost see the glow:
